Image and Obs update 2

I also did a set of embroidery hoops as my 'body of work' for this module:

I contemplated some sewn text and also cutting the fabric so only the bit IN the hoop was there - but was advised against it by a couple of people who saw them ... I still think there's something missing, but I'm handing them in this way - and will think about how to make them better over summer ...

Edit July 08 - Hello to everyone who's come here via Whip up and Craft Mag's Blog and have been leaving lovely comments :) If you follow the "embroidery" label, you'll get to see a couple more sewing based things...
Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

Wow - how clever! How appropriate, as a visual medium. How beautifully executed! Gosh, Mithi, you do have talent.

It looks beautiful. The blue fabric with the flowers brought back memories, used something similar some time ago to make patchwork cushions

Incredible, Mithi! I loved the preliminary sketches, but htese are so inspired! Wonderful.
I can't remember if I got back to you about the London design show - unfortunately my daughter's school doesn't participate, or she'd have loved to say hello!

Mithi! Yet again I'm left with nothing to say but wow. I feel like all my posts on here are exactly the same. The problem is, you're simply too talented, and therefore I hate you ;)

Drove past Birmingham yesterday. If I'd have thought of it I would have stopped off. But never fear, I shall probably be making many more of these cross-country drives, so there shall be multiple opportunities to say hi.

You made mum sooo proud!!(infact you always do)Remember how I used to put a two dimentional doll or a chicken with its five chicks or some other story on to your dress? Frame this all and hang on the wall where your sewing zone is.Your own work will always inspire you the most.Awsomely lovely! Love, Ammu.

These and the organza pieces are wonderful - I think the 'text' is in the hands - they are like sign language.

Your work is beautiful. Totally inspiring. I have been looking for ways to decorate my personal studio and after looking at your work, I am really inspired.

Thank you for sharing your brilliant work.

I found you via Whip Up. These are really wonderful. So well done and graphicaly strong. Have you considered mounting each whole piece to a linen canvas just a teeny bit larger than your fabric squares?

i found you via whipup too, these are so striking, i love it when someone comes up with something so apparently simple yet so original. i'm looking forward to having a bit more of a nosey around here, it sounds as though you're doing pretty much what i'd like to do :)

WOW!!!
They are AMAZING
(sorry of over use of caps, they are just soooo great, very neat and colourful)

noricum said...

Neat! I wouldn't cut the fabric either, however, you could pull the excess fabric to the back and tack it to itself so that it doesn't show.

Beautiful work! I like how you have a lot of white space. It makes the rest so much visually stronger.

ME again
I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed these pieces, they remind me of the science themed stuff you did in london. I particularly like the wristwatch on a couple of them, somehow reminds me of all the locks and doors and technology stuff which is part of you. I can also see the link back to the embroydered chair you did. ITs so nice to be able to track the deveopment and also to appreciate the beauty.
Also how lovely that you get so many praising comments, it must serve as a great resource to encourage you.
Lots of love
Piggy
