Dad is right. He doesn't look anything like that!!He is much more handsome than this lad.Only resemblance that I see is he is bald and has mustache. You drew Drew much more accurate than this.Honestly.Love. Ammu.
This portrait is not an accurate reflection of your dad. In real life, your dad's face looks thinner and there is a sparkle in his eyes. I saw your family in Malaysia in Dec 2006and have pictures to compare with.
Hi Dilkey - I immediately recognised Shafiq from the drawing !!! but strangely I struggle to see the true likeness in the portrait of Drew.
Maybe the longer we know someone the stronger becomes our personal view of what they look like, until eventually nobody else can represent that personal view to our satisfaction in a portrait.
Any way its good to see Shafiq again even if it is only a drawing this time.
Look after yourselves,
Mithi we are looking forward to seeing you at the weekend
It's a great drawing - though unfortunately I am unable to comment on any resemblance!
It did bring to my mind the concept of likeness...for example, I know that Freud's aim is not to achieve 'likeness', but to capture the essence of the subject - not so much what they look like but their inner feelings and thoughts at the time, more to convey emotion than a replica of their appearance.
I feel that is something you have captured well here!
Thanks everybody for all this wonderful comments!Dave's comments on 'personal views'and Zara's comments on capturing the essence of the subject, its feeling and emotion, has opend my eyes in many ways.A true Artist will always be able to create a balance. So congratulation Mithi you really did a wonderful job.Love, Ammu:)

Ammu.
aww mum...
I think it's the wrinkle under the eye that's making the biggest effect. Makes him look old and tired. Try removing it?
Maybe you caught him when he's jetlagged. lol
Mithi, you have the most amazing line quality. It's so clear adn sure.
Ha! That's funny, because as the page loaded, it came up first and I thought, "That's got to be Mithi's Dad!"
