Life on mid-tones

At life drawing today I came across some stoney coloured paper and decided to work on that instead of my usual white. What a difference it made to be able to do highlights!

These are wonderful. The highlights look great!

You are of course at liberty to tell me to go to hell...but I think you'll find if you push your dark values darker it will really carve out more volume and space in your figures. Try squinting and looking at the drawing and you can start to see what is popping out as a definite highlight or shadow and what could maybe be taken up a notch. These are very nice, Mithi (of course). It can be a challenge working with highlights on a midtone paper. I think they turned out beautifully.

These turned out great. I had the same experience recently with toned paper, which I usually resist.
