Life drawn ...

Have been feeling a little 'blah' all week ... dunno why. Was not really with it at life drawing today either, so everything is quite sketchy. Nothing I'm proud of, but thought best to post anyways. The top two are actually about A3 size and the others A4. Mostly Indian ink and washes on stone coloured sugar paper; and the bottom two with white pen on black sugar paper.

It's really difficult to work that large with ink - I think you can be proud of these.

I have been thinking about your figurative pursuits and wanted to give you names of a few figure artists I really enjoy looking at. Lucian Freud and Egon Schiele are expert at picking out and excentuating unusual colors in their models. I also really enjoy figure drawings I have seen by Antione Watteau. They are mostly conte crayon, and he works often with sepia tones and highlights. I like the last drawing you posted. I think the lines are beginning to acquire an angularness which seems new in your work. I like to think of chiseling the figure out of the 2D space of the page - much like a sculptor; and I think this last piece of yours is getting some of that nice presence of volume and mass because of those sharp lines. Good work!
