Experimental print

I've been playing round with print processes lately to see if I can get textures that give a sense of bacteria-ness (for the culture project).

At home I've been playing with monoprints and using water based block printing inks, and drops of water, and stencils and other stuff.

And at college I have been using the presses to do embossing and collagraphy to see how I might be able to get different textures. I especially love the effects I can get using bits of wood veneer and rough sandpaper. I think I prefer the embossed stuff to the inked stuff ... hmmm....

Still no clear idea about where I'm going with this - but at least I'm moving and enjoying the process ...

Woo! Bacteria! Yay!

ahem.

Don't forget about the slimy swarming and smelly ones...
Or the ones that change the colour of the media they're growing on...

Sounds like a fantastic project :)

I popped over here to see what you'd been up to - and my, you have been busy! I hope you are getting a minute to breathe. I love the collagraphs (very inspiring), do you think you could get a print off a doilie? Or would the press destroy the nooks and crannies...Also the pop up books are fabulous. What a fun opportunity!

Hey Mithi- thanks for helping clear up UWE fair confusions. I'm doing the one on the 2nd, but may be at the one on the 4th as well, because there's still some confusion about what we booked for. I'm not going to be at the Start the Bus thing because I should be at the BUST thing in London. Mind you I haven't made anything for anything so at the moment i'm kind of burying my head in the sand a bit. It would be nice to see you if you do swing by.

Hi! Yes, I think I agree with you about the embossing: it gets more depth rather easily (maybe because of the whiteness of the paper??) than the ink. Another thing with the monoprints would be to build up in layers? I've also used stuff like tin foils, cloth etc to texture the inked plate before printing.
Good luck!
